Balancing Work and Home

A working Mom is just like a school Mom, it is the quality of time that you spend with the kids instead of the amount of time spent.

The kids get home from school before I get home from work, so the call me at work and let me know that they are safe. I give them instructions on what I need done, homework, Etc.

I am luck right now, because my job allows me to send the kids off on the bus. Two years ago, my job did not allow that and I had to take the kids to daycare to get on the bus. There are so many different problems that arise from working. How do you take care of the kids when they are sick? Dental appointments, school functions during the day, teacher conferences?

Many employers don't allow you to take time off for all those things. I usually end up using my vacation on sick days with the kids. My employer is quite good and he does not have a problem with the kids calling me after school.

I do miss out on a lot of things with the kids at school and that makes us all sad. I quit my last job because Ethan asked me if I was ever going to eat supper with them again. That broke my heart. And I started job hunting. Now I get home at about 5:30 every evening. That is not so bad.

The kids seem to have adjusted quiet well to my work schedule. Sometimes I have to bring work home and we joke about Mom having homework again. I know that I would rather be home with the kids, but in today's economy that is not possible.

House work gets done when you have the chance. It is best scheduled one chore per night, or otherwise you get overwhelmed. And sometimes you just let the housework go to spend time with the family.

I guess summing it up it is all scheduling. Everything is down to a schedule. I could not live without my calendar. It keeps the weeks flowing without too much chaos.
